Mission
Our mission is to educate and train fellows to be outstanding physicians in infectious diseases, with each graduate providing excellent care in the community and contributing to the larger body of practice in our field.
Goals and objectives
In concordance with the ACGME core competencies, fellows are taught and expected to demonstrate sufficient and evolving knowledge in the diagnosis and management of the wide variety of infectious diseases; to demonstrate competence in all aspects of the biopsychosocial model of care in academic and community settings; to work alongside infection prevention and antibiotic stewardship professionals to apply evidence-based interventions that improve and maintain the health of our community; and to foster a spirit of scientific and academic inquiry through didactics and research.
Diversity
Our program and health system serve a diverse patient population from around the globe. We strive for bias-free selection of fellows regardless of race, sexual orientation, nationality, or religion, and we recruit a diverse group of fellows who mirror our community so that we provide excellent, culturally sensitive care. Our goal is to train excellent infectious disease physicians from groups underrepresented in medicine, and to recruit fellows interested in caring for patients in a diverse and underserved community within a public institution.
The program is committed to an inclusive community of trainees, faculty, and staff, supported by cultural competency education through grand rounds, annual online training, and seminars on racial, ethnic, and gender bias, diversity and inclusion, and social determinants of health. Lincoln Medical Center abides by Equal Employment Opportunity law and requires bias-free selection of faculty, staff, and trainees.
Recruitment
Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency. Since summer 2023 we recruit through ERAS and the NRMP, accepting one fellow each year for a total of two. Fellows may continue into a third year of Critical Care Medicine training through the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship one-year track.
