C.A.T.C.H. — Addiction Medicine

Consult for Addiction Treatment and Care in Hospitals: person-centered care for patients with substance use disorders, from withdrawal management to maintenance treatment.

The Consult for Addiction Treatment and Care in Hospitals (CATCH) service cares for patients who are struggling with substance use. The team manages acute withdrawal, initiates maintenance treatment, and arranges follow-up care, providing person-centered support to people facing a range of medical and psychosocial conditions in the context of substance use.

CATCH has three goals: to identify patients with substance use disorders early so that the first encounter with the health system becomes a productive therapeutic interaction; to strengthen the management of withdrawal symptoms and stabilization; and to recognize and support the ongoing nature of recovery that an optimal treatment plan sets in motion, or restarts.

Residents rotate with CATCH as part of the program’s Addiction Medicine experience.
