Cardiology

Busy inpatient and outpatient non-invasive cardiology, with teaching in EKG, perfusion and echo interpretation and an optional CCU rotation at Bellevue.

The Division of Cardiology offers a busy inpatient and outpatient non-invasive cardiology experience. Residents see cardiomyopathies, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and myocardial infarction, and receive structured teaching in the interpretation of EKGs, perfusion studies, and echocardiograms.

An optional four-week rotation at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, under the auspices of NYU, is available during residency and focuses on CCU care and invasive cardiology.

Most Sirajum Munira, MD, FACC, FASE, FASNC

Chief of Cardiology

Dr. Munira received her medical degree from Dhaka Medical College, Bangladesh, and trained in Internal Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn, where she also served as Chief Medical Resident. She completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at Maimonides Medical Center. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology, is certified in vascular imaging, and holds certification in Cardiac CT imaging from Johns Hopkins Hospital.

After fellowship she joined the Division of Cardiology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln as an attending physician, where she was closely involved in teaching and mentoring residents. She was appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in 2018, received Awards of Excellence in Academic Teaching from NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in 2020 and NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens in 2025, and became Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2023, serving as a key educator in the residency program at Queens Hospital Center.

Dr. Munira is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians, has authored numerous peer-reviewed abstracts and articles, and serves on the editorial boards of two international cardiology journals. A well-known health advisor in the Bengali community in New York City, she appears regularly on a televised health awareness program. She joined the Department of Medicine as Chief of the Division of Cardiology in September 2025.
