Mission
Our mission is to advance excellence in patient care, research, and education by training endocrinologists who care for multicultural and underserved patients without bias.
Goals and objectives
This subspecialty training program provides advanced training and experience so that the trainee acquires the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and experience required of a consultant in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. It serves trainees who anticipate careers in clinical practice, as clinician-educators, or in clinical research, and the teaching environment is designed to produce strong clinicians, educators, and investigators.
Recruitment
Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency. Since summer 2023 we recruit through ERAS and the NRMP, accepting one fellow each year for a total of two.
Diversity
The selection committee includes faculty from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. We make sure our fellows reflect the patients and community we serve, regardless of race, country of origin, sexual orientation, or identity. Fellows care for patients with highly complex medical and social needs.
Curriculum and didactics
Fellows focus on clinical endocrinology, developing the skills and knowledge to manage the full range of endocrine disorders. As leader of the inpatient endocrine consult service, the fellow manages patients with close supervision from an attending endocrinologist. Fellows also run a continuity clinic designed to function as their own practice under faculty supervision.
Training includes enhanced experience in diabetes technology, personalized hands-on instruction in thyroid ultrasound and fine-needle biopsy in the interventional radiology clinic, a pediatric endocrinology rotation, and a rotation in the maternal-fetal medicine clinic. Didactics include endocrine conferences, journal clubs, and multidisciplinary conferences with radiology, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, and diabetes education.
All fellows have protected research time and opportunities to attend and present at regional and national endocrine conferences.
